Hi everyone!

Some of you may already know me, some of you don't. My name is Kayleigh and I've been helping Knux out with all things Chaos Nova over the past few months (years even!). I'm 27, and have known Knux in real life for over 8 years now!

I have run a website and forum in the past, although I don't do it professionally it is something I enjoy, and I also like to dabble with Photoshop.

I enjoy Science Fiction & Fantasy, books, films and TV shows, so as Chaos Nova is steeped in this kind of setting I'm hoping that we will all have common ground to discuss, and maybe share a few favourite movies or tv shows?

I may well eventually join in with the RPG but I'm mostly going to be around in the other areas of the Forums helping them gain popularity! You will see some new forums added today, things like games and artwork or youtube promotion etc. Feel free to start a thread in one of these. Your posts don't have to be limited to here or the RPG forums, there is much more that Chaos Nova can offer you!

So there's me introduced, anyone else want to tell me a bit about themselves so I can get to know those of you I don't already?

Right then. I'm quite new here and don't quite know anybody, so ...

Name's Laura, and I crawled in from Youtube. I wandered into Knux's channel when checking out different folks' Primordia playthroughs; kept watching it semi-regularly, then at some point he fired up New Vegas. That's a familiar world for me and immediately my brain went into that "MUST SAY STUFF! I'M HELPING!" mode. I was also checking out the Chaos Nova podcasts then, found them very enjoyable, and inquired Knux if there would be any more. From that point on we got talking more, I subscribed to more ChaosCrafters/ -Novas, and eventually joined the forum. And then at some point more recent, I got to reading more and more of the sci-fi threads here, and in a burst of courage, decided to advertise my glorious (but oddly specific) textwork skills. And then crashed into the unravelling RPG thread Very Happy

34 years old, come from Estonia (USSR was still a thing when I started school!). As kids we were exposed to a lot of Soviet sci-fi (not nescessarily the classics), also tons of folktales and such, at the same time we didn't have that much access to "foreign" movies at the time (rich kids did!)... what I'm saying is, my "pop-culture profile" might be way different from average western nerds. I consider my primary trade to be copywriting/ instructional writing/ instructional design, and a bit of scriptwriting (mostly just describing small animations and a few video clips within e-courses - nothing fancy or anything). Also, I have acute typo-blindness and I am no good at proofreading Very Happy

That's about it for now.
Oh! And the Youtube username is a joke, literally. I first created the account so that I could gather music stuff in playlists (let's-plays came much later), and when setting things up I just *couldn't* think of a username. I'd been staring the screen, like, half an hour an finally thought - "if I can't think of a good name in the next five minutes, I'm gonna go with the silliest, most absurd thing that pops is mind!" Which happened to be this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1K8d9qXGnI

Greetings one and all, Long time Chaos-Novakian first time caller!
maybe not the original but was a frequent youtube uploader and playing alot of games with other Chaos-Novakians, had to cut down quite drastically with a new job that leaves me dead on my feet, but once im used to the swing of things uploads will be more frequent again Very Happy
I like to joke and troll people (it's what I do) but never mean to offend (I'm pleasant, honest!)
Things I like are Youtube videos (watching moreso) CANDY (It's so delicious how could i not?) and books by Robin Hobb (How oddly specific!)
I make alot of spelling and grammar mistakes, sometimes on purpose just to annoy the literary folk :oP (We've been over thin, I troll!)
Vanilla coke is lovely stuff!
ermmm yeah, about it, most people here would know me or of me maybe at least once... please... anyone??? LOVE MEEE!!!!! :'(
yea. That was awkward. Bye

Hi both!

Fafafa, my knowledge of Russian film is probably not its best. I studied Film in College & University, but I never really touched on Russian cinema except for the film Russian Ark. I was researching for my own script for a film to be shot almost entirely in 1st person at the time. On the more Sci Fi/Fantasy side of things I did enjoy the Nightwatch & Daywatch films. I am always keen to watch new films though, especially from other countries & cultures, so any recommendations would be welcome.

Matt! Don't I know you? Laughing How's the new job treating you?

Ooh, the Nightwatch and Daywatch films are awesome! Try out the book series too if you haven't - the plots take different course compared to books (some characters are reworked into completely different roles, the events are more condensed, etc.) but I think they both manage to do their thing well.

Don't know if I'm the right person to give recommendations because I haven't exactly got systematic knowledge on cinema, just the ... erm, formative experience. Also, having grown up on Soviet (and -adjacent) films, I know I'm used to stuff that feels "off" to western audiences - a lot of it boils down to pacing and story structure, I guess. One thing I can think of off the bat is the animation Secret of the Third Planet . Actually, I think the animations are a good gateway drug to Sov. stuff overall Smile
Live-action-wise, I can think of Pirx the Pilot (intro scene, no English subs) and Dead Mountaineer's Hotel (eh, no subs either...) - but I'm completely biased about those two because I remember them from very early age, and my home country's studios were involved making them Very Happy

Snaileigh, I remembered two more examples of Soviet cinematics that might be suitable for developing a sense of it. This time in serialized format, not strictly genre.
1) Seventeen Moments of Spring (full series, English subs) - it's basically the story of a heroic (of course!) Soviet spy, working undercover among Ze Germans. Compared to some other stuff it's surprisingly not-so-heavily-ideological.
2) In Search of Captain Grant. It's "Children of Captain Grant" bookended with Verne writing the story as it happens. This was the epitome of adventure movie for us at the time Very Happy This Youtube entry has only got Russian subs (pretty sure it's some sort of official channel and they've hunted down all the homebrew uploads)... but just look at that intro sequence Smile

Oh, and there's the Soviet version of Sherlock Holmes of course! (To me Livanov is still "the" Holmes with whom only the recent BBC depiction can compete.) There used to be an official Lenfilm (one of the big Soviet-era studios) channel on Youtube, featuring the full series... no English Subs but it was so true to the books you wouldn't even need them. But now the channel seems gone Sad

ED:
Speaking of animations - Hedgehog in the Fog (how could I forget that one...)

Hi all. I'm Karl, and I'm an alcoholic.
Eh? What? Isn't that how these things go? Oh. OK. Scrub that, then.
I'm still Karl, but forget the other thing.

So, there's an example of what passes for my sense of humour, now what else?
I'm basically here because of Laura (fafafabigben). We've known each other for...a good long while now, our paths having first crossed on the S.T.A.L.K.E.R forums. She provided a lot of insight into that world (specifically the deeper Soviet/cultural things I was curious about) before going on to say some nice things about a couple of stories I wrote in that game-world and posted on the 'Stalker Stories' board they ran over there. Later, she helped with background details and edits when one of those stories was on the road to being made 'official' (which is a long and boring story, so...).
In the fullness of time, we finally had the chance to meet up recently and I was introduced to Knux. After lurking for a bit as a guest, getting a bit of a feel for the place, here I am.

(And while it's old news, I can confirm that the Daywatch and Nightwatch films are awesome, as are the books they were based on. Another thing I have to thank Laura for. Smile )

Oh wow, I haven't seen this thread in years. Glad you found somewhere to post though sir, I saw new member floating around and wondered if it was you. I'll give you the standard Chaos Nova permissions. Welcome to the party Wink

Also, I have a feeling your sense of humour will fit in just perfect around here! *Raises glass*

All the best!

Knux: Cheers. Glad to be here, though I'm still very much in the nosing around stage, figuring stuff out and so on. As for finding somewhere to post, 'Introductions' seemed like the ideal place...zombie thread or no. Wink

FFFBB: Ta. Smile

Our zombie threads are friendly! With the sporadic nature of visiting and posting, any thread can easily become what would be considered a zombie elsewhere - just breathe some life into it and you'll be fine Very Happy

P.S. if you feel like dipping into some roleplay/fiction, I'd say "crash landing" is exactly at the spot where a new character (or two) could enter the scene.

Hi everyone, I'm Chris, a game developer from Silver Spook Games.

I came across Chaos Nova whilst exploring the possibility of working with writers to develop an adventure game (LucasArts / Sierra-style) and happened to discover Knux and Laura were big Primordia fans, as am I.

I've been a life-long sci-fi fan and writer.  In fact, I met my wife through the William Gibson message board and we met in person at a get together with the guy in Vancouver!  I liked some of the stories being read aloud on Youtube and the behind-the-scenes creative process.  If nothing comes of this idea that's fine.  I figure I should at least register and make an introduction to not feel so much like a stalker. Smile

Anyway, good luck to you all on your writings and such!

Welcome!
(Knux will handle your sign-up and access and such... I hope, i don't know the admin tools that well.)
It's interesting so see how all these different fictional worlds and fandoms and circles overlap. I'm extremely fond of Gibson myself (more at-the-bottom-of-the-heart thing, I haven't run around in trenchcoats or any of that Smile ) and totally jealous over the Vancouver encounter!

Btw, i'm hoping to make time for some discussion this week, will see how that goes.

Welcome =D

I've upgraded your access so you can see all of the forum. Feel free to check it out, and if you've got any questions, feel free to ask. It's not as organised as it might seem.

All the best!

Thanks Knux!  I will check them out shortly.

@fafafabigben: You definitely need to try trenchcoating it in Chinatown.  Really the only way to LARP for cyberpunks. Wink

Thanks for adding me to the 'inner cloister' and I will also have a look at those discussion notes!

On Gibson: he's a cool guy.  in fact I may be able to surrogate-harass WG through a friend in Vancouver who eats Thai with him weekly into giving some of your stuff a shoutout on Twitter at some point in the future (I got that done for Neofeud Very Happy ).

Also, you guys have inspired me to try reading a short story 'set in the world of Neofeud' into the interwebz. It should be fun since I voice-acted the character in the Neofeud game itself and know how he sounds already.

Anyway -
I'll hop over to twitter chat to provide context on some of the materials. Stay tuned Smile

P.S.
When I was a little kid, USSR was still a thing, and our town was one of the restricted locations due to a military airfield here. I suppose that gives me some Native Dystopian Bonus Very Happy
